Hypothesis:
If there is congruency on learning objectives between teacher and student, then students will be motivated and the classroom will be a autonomous learning environment, because students will have a say in their cognitive development.
Class was tough today - not sure if it because of outside factors or inside factors but I have this feeling like no matter what I do - I don't have enough time!
I definitely took a lot away from todays class though. The biggest thing I took away from today was the idea that if a teacher sets clear objectives for their students, they can teach students to know what competency 'feels' like. This idea blew me away because it is such a huge life skill - to know what it means to be competent. Our drive to succeed is completely built off of this plain and simple feeling! And it plays a big part in the motivation and emotion of the students we teach. Because learning is based so much off of emotion, social context and the BIG 3 I think that throughout our lives, learning anything happens the same way. I also plan to use the BIG 3 (Autonomy, Competency, Relatedness) as scaffolding for my students learning as well. We do, however have to be careful with self-directed learning. I think it is truly difficult to make it work, and I believe it will take a lot of experience. Here are some words that remind me of tangible feelings I want my students to feel like they have: Choice, self-ruling and Independence.
The last thing that I really felt inspired about today was our discussion about Emotional Intelligence and Hot Cognition. I think that I have always been a very emotional person and I have studied human emotion. Those two things make me very 'in tune' with how other people feel. I am also aware of social and behavioral patterns. I want my background with these emotions and behaviors, my knowledge of them, to help me with my future students. I want to build on this skill and apply it to my teaching. I would love for everyone to feel confident and exactly where they want to be.
I guess that's it for now.
See you soon, aa
Amanda,
ReplyDeleteI like how you are finding relevance in the curriculum based on your prior learning and dispositions. The analysis you are conducting is indeed productive. How about you now construct a T2P hypothesis that synthesizes your beliefs about EQ and hot cognition, discusses them in relation to student learning (and high-quality motivation), and then provide a specific pedagogical practice you might employ to help students along the same path you've traveled? A big challenge--I'm certain you can handle it! Keep pressing.
