Crossing the lines: Creative composition and composing in creative writing
Bishop Article Description:
This document explores the idea (often from a students perspective) that writing is a skill that everyone can accomplish through practice. I believe that students with confidence in their creative writing can then use those same skills to foster writing term papers and other required writing for the standard English classroom. Often, creative writing is left out of the big picture and most classroom settings focus on the 5-paragraph essay or the term paper. But what if we flipped that around and tried a backwards approach? What if students became confident expressing their own personal voice first – and then moved on to using that voice and skills to write research papers? I believe this article shows that sometimes focusing on something fresh can provoke and promote new learning. This is my vote for – How people learn.
